– The initiative, which is carried out for the third consecutive year, includes audiological operations and workshops aimed at older adults.
In San Vicente de Talcahuano, a new version of the community project promoted by the School of Speech-Language Pathology at Universidad San Sebastián (USS) and Blumar was launched, aimed at contributing to the well-being of older adults in the municipality.
The initiative, which is being developed for the third consecutive year, was designed based on a participatory diagnosis conducted in coordination with the neighborhood associations of San Vicente, which made it possible to identify the main local needs and establish a work plan for the direct benefit of the community.
“With Blumar we established a work plan to generate a project for the direct benefit of older adults. Our objective is to promote healthy aging through health assessments and workshops that directly impact their quality of life, a very significant population in the municipality. It is also key for us that our students engage with the community and have an early approach to reality,” explained Tamara Pierart, director of the School of Speech-Language Pathology at USS.
At this opportunity, audiological operations are being carried out in the field through hearing screening evaluations, in addition to two workshops: one focused on digital literacy; and another on cognitive stimulation and physical activity, responding to the high aging rates recorded in the municipality.
The municipality also valued the collaborative work: “As a municipality, when our neighbors raise a need, we value that Blumar and Universidad San Sebastián contribute with these professionals to provide a response and support to the community,” said Cristián Campos, director of Community Development at the Municipality of Talcahuano.
For his part, Blumar’s Fishing Business Manager, Ignacio Mir, stated that the alliance aims to “generate value together with the communities, with our different actors and, based on the relationship we have with our neighbors, continue contributing through concrete actions for their benefit”.
