– Through talks on clean production and marine environment, students learned more about new sustainability-related initiatives. 

Talcahuano, June 22, 2022. Students from San Vicente School were able to access training on clean production and underwater life, in a meeting where the Regional Environmental Ministry, Sernapesca, Blumar, PacificBlu and Asipes participated. Students from fifth to seventh grade learned through talks about the importance of protecting the marine environment.

The representative of the Regional Environmental Ministry, Herty Roa, who is part of the environmental and social recovery program in Coronel, emphasized that “as the Regional Ministry we promote environmental education because we raise awareness among children and their families about environmental protection. Through knowledge, the environment is protected because natural resources are valued, so these types of talks help them move forward”.

Blumar’s environmental engineer, María José Zagal, mentioned that “participating in these instances is very important for us, since we can publicize the progress we have made in clean production and teach students new environmental initiatives to protect the environment. We hope to continue being part of these talks that are so important for the community”.

The same opinion was shared by Asipes’ sustainability manager, Monserrat Jamett, who commented that “since 2018, a Clean Production Agreement was implemented in the industrial fishing fleet, and as part of our work program and stakeholder engagement we invite the community to be part of environmental awareness, working  with schools in communes to convey the message of caring for the marine environment”.

For her part, the environmental workshop coordinator at San Vicente School, Bárbara Navarrete, indicated that it is very important to resume these initiatives with companies, since due to the pandemic it had been difficult. “The training has been very good for the children because various topics related to marine resources have been covered,” she highlighted. 

“It is very important that the community knows how our food processing industry works, as we fully comply with environmental standards. Both in land and sea operations we have commitment to the resources we catch and process,” pointed out PacificBlu’s bay manager, Marco Hidalgo.
