– The institutions signed a collaboration agreement to develop a series of initiatives, among which stands out the “Labor Orientation Workshop” that will be taught by San Sebastián University to fourth-year students of the school.
With the aim of promoting, strengthening and developing activities that ensure comprehensive education for young people in the Corral district, the fishing and salmon farming company Blumar signed a collaboration agreement with Liceo Bicentenario Carlos Haverbeck, through which it seeks to generate opportunities to showcase the company’s plants and processes, promote local development and enhance student education and training.
The mayor of Corral, Miguel Hernández, was one of the participants in the activity and commented that “with this initiative, a commitment to Corral’s education is being expressed, which needs a lot of help and where we need our young people to improve. The signing of this agreement is one of the ways to achieve it”.
For his part, Blumar’s Fishing Operations Manager, José Ocares, highlighted that “we are very happy to be able to carry out this alliance, which positively impacts the education of hundreds of young people who will benefit in their professional careers. As a company, we are interested in developing initiatives with local communities, where we can strengthen each other and move forward on fundamental matters, such as education”.
One of the highlighted initiatives is the “Labor Orientation Workshop”, which will be taught by San Sebastián University (USS) to fourth-year students at its Valdivia campus. Therefore, the university’s Community Engagement Director, Felipe Mena, indicated that “when government, private enterprise and academia come together, very novel and interesting things result. For this reason, we see with great hope and perspective this beginning of work in Corral with Blumar and Liceo Carlos Haverbeck”.
Furthermore, the fishing and salmon farming company will open the doors of its Fish Meal and Fish Oil Plant in Corral as a practice center to receive students from the school who graduated from the Industrial Food Processing specialty, in order to provide the opportunity to develop in the field and meet the curricular requirement of having professional training to obtain their professional degree.
“For us, as a comprehensive high school, it is important to create space for the technical field, highlight it and give it great opportunities, which is why partnering with private enterprise is one of the ways to do it. That is our main focus, that our students when they graduate are prepared with the skills and tools necessary to face the job market, and we believe that this agreement is an excellent opportunity to acquire them,” pointed out the director of Liceo Carlos Haverbeck, Alberto Velázquez.
