– The company obtained for the first time certifications for its farming centers in the regions of Aysén and Magallanes. Additionally, both the fishing and salmon divisions received seals that account for the measurement of greenhouse gases. 

Talcahuano, December 10, 2021. In a ceremony held today, Blumar received the quantification and reduction seals, which relate to the measurement and reduction of greenhouse gases, from Huella Chile. This program, promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, seeks to encourage the calculation, reporting and management of greenhouse gases (GHG) in organizations from both the public and private sectors.

The quantification seal, which recognizes companies that measure greenhouse gases, was awarded to Blumar facilities, Salmones Blumar and Salmones Blumar Magallanes. It is the first time that the carbon footprint measurement has been carried out in the farming centers in operation in the regions of Aysén and Magallanes, achieving that 100% of the company is certified.

Likewise, Blumar obtained the reduction seal at its fishmeal plant in San Vicente, awarded to companies that have implemented management and have been able to reduce their greenhouse gases. This year, only 21 companies achieved recognition with this accreditation.

“Climate change is the greatest challenge we face as a generation and our efforts must be focused on promoting climate action at all levels. Civil society, the political world and the private sector must be increasingly ambitious, working to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2050”, stated during his presentation the Minister of the Environment, Javier Naranjo.

Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, stated that “receiving these seals indicates that we are moving correctly on the path we have set for ourselves in the coming years. We understand sustainability as a process of continuous improvement and we want to continue progressing, taking charge of our impacts, generating value in our community and committing ourselves to developing a socially and environmentally sustainable activity”.

For her part, the head of ESG management and climate change, Estefanía Humud, stated that “obtaining these seals symbolizes the commitment and work carried out by each of the company’s areas, it is undoubtedly an important advance for our management that frames the path we want to follow as a company”.
