Respecting the tradition of artisanal fishermen, in 2022 the members of the Caleta Anahuac fishermen’s union in Puerto Montt paid homage to their patron saint San Pedro in a procession with 80 vessels and a corresponding mass to give thanks to the saint.
Juan García, president of the Anahuac Fishermen’s Union, said that together with the 70 members they are very grateful for the support received, especially from the companies Blumar, Ventisqueros and Transmarko, as well as from the authorities, which have helped them navigate these difficult times in a better way. He particularly thanked Blumar for its collaboration through St. Andrews with an important donation of mussels to 1200 families, homes for minors and elderly in Puerto Montt and Alerce, and more than 300 snacks for households in need; “We have been working with Blumar for several years, a company partner of our cove, which has provided us with advice on projects and made excellent professionals available to accompany us in our challenges”. He noted that the Festival of San Pedro is a tradition and part of the culture of artisanal fishing, it is a time to give thanks for all the blessings received and to ask for protection for the work carried out at sea.
For his part, Pedro Pablo Laporte, Manager of Farming at Blumar Salmon, highlighted the work carried out together with the fishermen of Caleta Anahuac. “There is a relationship of trust built over time of which we are very proud, we are part of the community and we are involved in day-to-day life, we know each other, we know their needs and we also know their generosity. We have supported their initiatives, such as this Festival of San Pedro and San Pablo, which is part of the cultural heritage of the community. We are happy to be here, to see each other face to face and to contribute to such a significant and noble cause.
In this way the company adds another year of collaboration in the traditional festival, an instance of gathering that allows celebration after 2 years of non-celebration due to the pandemic.
