– The event was made possible thanks to an agreement that Liceo María Behety and Blumar signed in 2018.

Punta Arenas, November 10, 2023. Within the framework of the agreement that Blumar and Liceo María Behety of Punta Arenas have had since 2018, 4th year students specializing in Aquaculture visited Estero Riquelme, a center located in Skyring Sound, in Río Verde.

 This is the fifth time the activity has been held, whose objective was to bring students closer to the field and the practices carried out in work related to their specialty.

 Mayte Contreras is one of the students who visited the center. She stated that “it was very entertaining, it is much more dynamic than I thought and it is totally different from what you see in classes, which are theoretical. There are many things we didn’t know”.

Catalina Arcos also studies the Aquaculture specialty and mentioned that “it is not very common in high schools to have this experience. You come to experience something that not all 4th year students will be able to see”. 

Hugo Mancilla, the high school’s general inspector, has participated three times in the event and commented that “it is a very significant experience for students, because what they see in theory they can see in practice. I always see a very good willingness from the people who work here to help the young people, and above all their desire for them to learn”. 

For his part, Francisco Mena, head of Blumar’s Estero Riquelme Center, valued that “it is very gratifying to receive the students, because they are the aquaculturists of the future, it is good to share what we do with them. The most important thing is that with these instances we integrate more into the community. We have had a strategic alliance with the high school for years, there are people who have done internships with us and are now our collaborators”.
