Friday, October 22, 2021.-  After two years without visiting the Magallanes facility, students from Liceo Maria Behety were able to be received by the company again. With all preventive and safety measures in place, a field trip was organized for fourth-year students specializing in aquaculture to the Mina Elena farming center, located on Isla Riesco. 

Here the young students were able to learn about the center’s operations and the work carried out by Salmones Blumar Magallanes workers. “It’s much better than I thought. During the pandemic they only showed us photos of these places, so seeing them in person is really nice and the landscape is very beautiful”, commented aquaculture student Carla Mayorga. 

For her part, another visitor, Samira Alvarado, mentioned that “we all generally thought it was smaller, from the photos and when we saw it from the bus. It was super nice. Everything they had taught us in class, we experienced it here and we’re preparing ourselves for what comes next, for the internship, for those who want to work in this field”. 

Those responsible for receiving them were company workers. One of them is Rodrigo Muñoz, an aquaculture graduate from Liceo María Behety, who noted that “it brought nostalgia from my school days at the high school. It brought back memories of when we came here and did the same tour in 2018. It was quite good to see how the new generation goes through here”. 

Meanwhile, Mina Elena farming center assistant Marcos Aguirre, highlighted that “I think these are really good opportunities because this way they can see the reality of what they’re studying, and I believe this type of visit helps them complement what they learn in class”. 

The production manager of Salmones Blumar Magallanes, Pablo Diocarez, stated that “for us it’s super important because the high school is the seedbed. From here we will have personnel to support us in the centers and technicians in the future. The students have various interests and that’s very good because it helps us teach, to show what we know and the beautiful work we do. This industry has many things and teaching them how we do it and how well we do it is very good for us”. 

Finally, the production sub-manager of Salmones Blumar Magallanes, Pablo Solís, affirmed that “we are proud to come with the high school students. We’ve been working together for quite some time, during which we’ve formed a nice virtuous partnership. We feel part of the María Behety family and they also feel part of the Salmones Blumar Magallanes family. It’s very important and gratifying for us to accompany them in their growth, as well as in the development of their professional vocation. To this we must add that we have former students working in the centers, who perform various functions, and they have been and will continue to be a great contribution to development”.
