Universidad San Sebastián and Blumar promoted a project that sought to install management capabilities in the Chucahua sector committee to increase the efficiency and sustainability of the drinking water service delivered to families. 

Conscious and correct use of water is fundamental, taking into account the problems and scarcity at the global level that are increasingly present regarding water resources.

In this line, Universidad San Sebastián, together with Blumar and the APR Committee of Chucahua, on Isla Huar, developed a capacity-building program in order to increase its efficiency and sustainability around drinking water management. 

This project, which contributes to the Territorial Program Milestone “More Blue” of Community Engagement (VcM), began its implementation in November of last year, and has specific objectives to install capabilities in the committee, raise community awareness regarding efficient water use and foster collaboration and exchange of experiences with other APRs in the region. 

“This initiative strengthens the model that USS has been developing with the APRs in recent years with the purpose of addressing this problem in the territory. Being able to contribute to a challenge such as guaranteeing access to drinking water in rural environments from the academy, involving students, academics, private companies and the community is the essence of community engagement that we want to do from the University”, emphasized Alberto Fernández, VcM academic from the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design.  

The initiative had as its final milestone, the inauguration of an office for the APR Committee, in which service users will be served, applying the knowledge acquired both from visits to other APRs in the region, as well as from the various trainings that were conducted.

 “Administrative work is the foundation of the work we do in the committee and sometimes we don’t realize how important it is”, mentioned Ramón Alvarado, president of the Chucahua drinking water committee.
