Talcahuano, August 22, 2022. “The savings generated from the installation of this technology will allow us to allocate resources to other needs”, says parish priest Manuel Zúñiga at the inauguration of the installation of 12 solar panels donated to the San Vicente shelter, in the commune of Talcahuano that welcomes homeless people.
The project was developed thanks to the alliance of the salmon and fishing company Blumar with the entrepreneurship formed by surfers, Bureo, who make products from fishing nets, generating profits that are reinvested in social initiatives. Since 2016 alone, the agreement has allowed 120 tons of fishing nets to be recycled, which have been converted into raw material for the production of fabrics used in the manufacture of swimsuits, skateboards, hats and office chairs, among others.
“This is a cycle that we started many years ago. The idea of net recycling was born in the fleet and we are happy with the result, because we seek a permanent link between our industry and our neighbors. We are a local company, responsible and with great affection we have generated this project”, said Blumar’s Fishing Operations Manager, José Ocares and emphasized that the project “generates a triple impact, because we stop sending waste to landfills, we advance in our sustainability strategy and we benefit our community”.
“Example of circular project”
The alliance will allow the delivery of a solar plant power of 5,340 watt-peak, which projects an annual solar generation of 7,576 KWH, which means that 67% of consumption will come from this source and savings that will directly benefit the community.
“Through this initiative, we have generated different funds for social projects, such as clean energy, which is an example of a circular project, a recycling activity that has high social impact”, clarified Bureo Chile’s Supply Chain Manager, Manuel Sigren.
Also present at the inauguration was the regional secretary of Social Development of Biobío, Edson Díaz, who highlighted the project. “It is very virtuous what has happened here, especially Blumar’s concern and the generation of renewable energy in spaces of protection for homeless people, such as this shelter. I see it very necessary that private companies generate instances of collaboration with a positive impact on the environment”, emphasized the authority.
