38 students from Liceo María Behety certified food safety course

Education & Training
  • The training, financed by Blumar Magallanes, will allow them to expand their knowledge and the labor field in which they will work

For the third consecutive year, 38 students from the aquaculture and gastronomy specialties at Liceo María Behety approved training on the food safety system.

The course, which was again developed online this year, encompassed content related to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standardized Operational Sanitization Procedures (SOSP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), mandatory techniques for working in plants that process and handle food.

Along with thanking Blumar Magallanes for their contribution to the course, the director of Liceo María Behety, Marcela Andrade, stated: “Once again in our educational community a feeling of deep gratitude is born, especially in this context of pandemic, in which we still find ourselves. We need support to develop the necessary competencies in our students, and this food safety course reinforces this, not only in the aquaculture specialty, also in the gastronomy specialty”.

Aquaculture student Carla Mayorga commented: “I learned so many things that are part of daily life such as, for example, washing hands, washing food well, things that are important, but are much more rigorous. It was quite interesting and caught my attention”.

For the head of the gastronomy specialty at Liceo María Behety, María Lorena Gallardo, “it is a good opportunity for them, since apart from the certification they have once they graduate from the specialty, they will have this food safety certification that opens another opportunity for them. Apart from being in the kitchen, they can opt for another job field, which is no less important”, she pointed out.

Along with highlighting the alliance between Blumar Magallanes and Liceo María Behety, which has allowed, among other things, the implementation of this training, the Regional Manager of Salmon at Blumar Magallanes, Ignacio Covacevich, valued the relationship that exists with this technical professional school since 2017. “I feel that we are part of the school’s family. One goes to Blumar’s cultivation centers and there are former aquaculture students working, super committed, they are part of our team. So, we have been part of their training and they in turn, today are part of our work team, so it has been an experience in which we have both gained a lot”.

For 2022, the commitment is to strengthen this collaboration agreement that allows complementing the training of Liceo María Behety students and developing specialized human capital for aquaculture in Magallanes.

At the consolidated level, the company reported increases in revenue, pre-fair value adjustment EBITDA, and net income during the second quarter and first half of 2026, driven primarily by the fishing segment and the recognition of U.S. tariff refunds in the salmon segment. On a year-to-date basis, the aquaculture segment remained below the results recorded in the first half of 2025, although it showed a recovery during the second quarter.
